Tavian “Philocypher” Napier, the founder of Mastery Esports Coaching and Consulting, brings a wealth of unparalleled experience from his tenure as the former Director of the Western Michigan University Esports program. In this pivotal role, he was instrumental in overseeing the program’s rapid growth, fostering significant student engagement, and contributing to its overall success. His leadership extended to the meticulous management of a state-of-the-art esports arena and the development of innovative educational initiatives.

Among his notable achievements at WMU, Tavian authored and successfully implemented the curriculum for WMU Esports summer camps, which consistently sold out positions for multiple years. He also pioneered a professional production process, effectively training student staff in its execution, and established a valuable broadcasting and production internship program in collaboration with the College of Fine Arts.

Tavian’s commitment to competitive gaming runs deep at the grassroots level. He is the founder of the Kalamazoo FGC (Fighting Game Community), a thriving local group that meets regularly for tournaments and social play. Through this dedication, he has personally organized and executed over 300 local and online tournaments, showcasing his exceptional organizational and community-building skills. Furthermore, leveraging his production and analysis expertise, Tavian frequently serves as a skilled commentator and shoutcaster for major and small-scale fighting game tournaments across America.
